Known for combining positive life affirmations with beautiful type, Tessa shares more on her process and reminds us just how important it is to stay open and be vulnerable.

Could you tell us a bit about who you are and what you make?

I’m Tessa Forrest and I make inspirational typographic art under an Instagram account called @subliming.jpg.

What would you say has the greatest effect on your creative process?

My emotions and hardship. In both good and bad ways, but mostly good. I usually process my emotions by reflecting on them and then creating art. Every tough time I’ve been through has served as the inspiration and driving force behind my work.

We just collaborated on a tee. Could you tell us what this graphic means to you?

This graphic represents how openness in a seemingly insignificant way can create a domino effect of openness and peace throughout the rest of your life.
When I keep my space optimized for creative nourishment, my mind and heart feel at peace. When my mind and heart feel at peace, this affects my behaviors and interactions with the world around me.

What do you hope our community will take away from this message?

The importance of vulnerability, openness and self-reflection. They are such valuable and enriching facets of the life experience and I believe it’s in everyone’s best interest to cultivate and embrace them every day.

Is there any advice you've been given that you would like to share?

Listen to your intuition. Growing up my mom would always tell me to “listen to that feeling in your tummy” if something felt wrong or off. I didn’t really know it then, that of course she was talking about my gut and intuition. But when you’re so young, it really resonates as that physical ache in your belly.
